FNAF 2 movie thoughts (with spoilers)
So, just watched the movie with my friend and since people online are really... Divided (is that the word, I dunno) on it, I'll just throw my hat in the ring. I want to say that I'd focus mostly on the things I liked/was neutral about since I'm just that kind of person that focues on the good sides of media, but, I'll say in advance, there are definitely were some things I disliked.
CHARLIE/PUPPET:
The start with 1982 and Charlie's death was AMAZING. Probably my favorite part of the movie (even tho Charlie "running" away from William was kinda goofy imho). It's pretty short but I think it tells what it needed to tell pretty good - why Charlie is like this in the movie.
I think that making Charlie an evil spirit is a little weird, considering that she is pretty much the exact opposite in the games, but it works. She wanted to help the little boy and her first thought was to ask adults for help, What did they do? They ignored it. She had to go there alone and she died because of that. I think it explains why she is like that. Not that it justifies the actions, but I can see why she did that.
The whole possesion thing looked kinda weird, honestly. Like, the concept is pretty damn interesting, but how it was executed is... Pretty mid.
MIKE, VANNESSA AND ABBY:
About the main three, their writing was alright for me. Not the best character writing I've seen, there's room for improvment, but it made sense.
Vannessa got the most screen time out of the three and I liked her character a bit more here compared to the first movie. Her visions of William and the nightmare scene were great. Really nails how traumatic it was for her. (The nightmare also kinda reminded me of Scream for some reason and I've never even watched Scream.)
Abby was also pretty good here. It was cool to see her socialize at the start and the scene in the Pizzaria from the first movie was great. Her getting fooled by animatronics may be a bit strange, but that's not that big of a deal for me, personally.
Mike was the one that, I feel, got the least screen time. Still, that time wasn't bad. Him finding Henry and talking to him was great, I think. The pizzaria part where he was disabling the Toys while defending from Withereds was cool too (didn't expect him to just kill BB like that, but ok). There was one moment that I didn't really like about him, but I'll say it later.
MICHAEL AFTON:
He was pretty much like William in the first movie - appeared in the beginning, dissapeared and then appeared at the end.
However, I liked him. The actor did an AMAZING job. He somehow entered an uncanny valley of sorts with the facial expressions and voice. Like, he doesn't look like a real person most of the time. More like something impersonating a human. (Robot Michael? Who knows)
His character is... William Jr. Is that a bad thing? Maybe? Like, I think he should appear in the 3rd movie and we'll get more on him there. From what I understood, he escaped, so there is a big chance that he will become the antagonist for the new part. (Thought I'm not certain on ths part. I got a headache during the watch, so I didn't really catch this part)
ANIMATRONICS:
Holy, the animatronics were great!
Toys looked really good. I'm especially in love with the car scene with Mangle. I was on the edge of my seat. The whole wireless control thing is interesting. Like, did Henry and William really just make Bluetooth in late 70's-80's? (That may not make much sense, but that's FNAF we're talking about, so I'm not that surprised.)
Withereds were cool too, however, I think they deserved more screen time, especially Withered Bonnie. Thank god they were made the separate thing from the classics too, btw.
I didn't expect classics to reappear, but they did... Just to kill Toys, aurafarm a bit and then to move on(???). That was... Surely something.
THE ENDING:
Okay, the ending is something I'd say I didn't like. Not that it was bad, just... Really confusing.
First, classics, the spirits to be more specific. As I said, they moved on and like... Why? Especially since they know about William still being alive. Spirits are supposed to move on after William gets what he desrves - That's basically what FNAF 3 was about with The Happiest Day and everything. Here they just... Kinda dissapear.
Second, Mike and Vannessa. Okay, maybe that's weird, but Mike, WHAT THE HELL YOU WERE ON ABOUT, BRO??? "I can't trust you." LIKE, ARE WE DEADASS??? I know why he said that, Vannessa was hiding all that stuff in first movie and now also Michael, but still, that wasn't the moment to say that, man. Maybe I just get too attached to character relationships, but still, that was kinda weird to me.
Lastly, the cliffhanger. I don't mind cliffhangers, but how it's done here... Diabolical work, Scott. Just wow.
Overall, the ending felt like it was a bit rushed. (Also, I saw someone call it "Marvel-esque" and, honestly, I see why they said it.)
OTHER (I just didn't know where to put these thoughts):
About Henry, I thought that he would have more screen time. Not that his character was bad, but one scene with Mike wasn't enough. Maybe we'll get more in the third movie, who knows.
All the references and jokes were fun to spot. Like, a 2 frame cameo of RXQ or Candy and Popgoes appearing on the arcade games were pretty cool. However, the plush thing is gotta be the best one lmao.
Holy, they got creative with the kills this time. Like, the first movie only had the bite from Freddy and it was kinda goofy. Here, it was done a LOT better in my opinion. Toy Chica crushing the teacher's head was the highlight (he lowkey deserved it tho).
The post-credit scene with Springtrap is... AWESOME! And Circus Baby appearing was something I did not expect at all! It all can set up so many ideas but also make things really confusing for the future.
MY RAITING: 7~8/10
There are some bad things, mostly the ending to me, but the watch was a blast and I liked it overall! Scott and others did a pretty good job with it, but it certainly can be improved upon. Waiting for the 3rd part to see where the movies will go.
