Something I wrote him two weeks before our breakup

Would you embrace all of me?
When you scrutinize every dark corner of my being,
flashlight in hand, would you welcome everything you illuminate?
When what you thought was molasses is truly tar,
and what was bubblegum is actually chewing tobacco,
will you drink in all of me with the same enthusiasm as your daily bitter, black coffee?
If you did, could you wear it with pride?
Or would the shame manifest as the sieve of your gold pan - the negative space of the filter dictated by the recipient of the pass through.
Would you let me watch, wondering why my sequestered precious stones in the sieve are considered undesirable sediment?

I've been forced to witness several counterfeit versions of myself.
Most an embodiment of how my true self has failed to meet expectations.
If you show me that you truly love me as I am,
I wonder if then the burnished versions of myself you invent will be more palatable to me.
If you have the love for me that you say you do,
I won't yearn once again to be those imitations who are free of my blemishes on their souls.
If the warmth and tenderness of your hands can sweeten my bitter memories,
then I can finally give you all of me.
Please, let me be fortunate enough to feel the full extent of your embrace on my entire being..
