I have a free well built comodity SaaS tool, should i run with it or focus on my own thing?

I’ve been handed a functioning SaaS product my friend abandoned — a digital loyalty wallet (think stamp cards / points cards pushed to Apple Wallet & Google Wallet). It's basically a cheaper version of passentry.com, and it works for SMEs like cafés, salons, barbers, car washes, etc.

He paid an agency to build it, lost interest, and gave it to me saying “run with it,” but he wants 50% of revenue while I do everything: GTM, positioning, sales, cold outreach, pricing, onboarding, iterations — the whole company-building grind. He owns the tech; I would operate it.

The product is a commodity in my market (UAE). Multiple providers exist. But I believe I can carve out a niche and realistically grow this to 5k MRR within 1–2 months if I hit the street, purely through hustle.

Context: I’m unemployed, sitting at home applying to jobs, feeling depressed and needing momentum. I also have a second SaaS — a niche “click-to-talk” tool selling to larger B2B clients with 1k USD per account potential. That one requires fewer clients but longer cycles. I think I can win ten accounts in 3 months and reach 10k MRR, given my background.

My dilemma:

Is 50/50 fair for a product where I handle everything and he just paid for development? Should I even bother pushing a commodity product I’m not passionate about? Should I focus fully on my click-to-talk SaaS instead, split efforts, or walk away and build my own version?

— but I’m biased because I feel urgency to escape unemployment and regain momentum.

Would love blunt founder feedback.
