Am I too sensitive or are teenagers just really mean sometimes?

My 15 year old son hurts my feelings so bad sometimes. He’s my first born and we’ve always had a close relationship. Even still, he comes home and tells me about his day, drama with friends, girls he has crushes on, and I’m so incredibly thankful for that because I know most of his friends aren’t talking to their moms about all that.

However… there are times that he’s so moody and gets so short and annoyed with me. He stares at me like he hates me at times. And it’s so confusing to my nervous system because where is this coming from?! It feels soul crushing and I’ll just break down and cry (not in front of him) but then I feel absolutely ridiculous because I’m a grown adult and shouldn’t be crying over this.

Is this normal? Am I being too sensitive? Or are other moms of teens out there crying in secret, too?
