is this how the game works?

So I just quickplayed my first game after doing the tutorial and picking a healer

It starts with everyone just outrunning me on a mount and pulling several pack at time while I try to catch up? A mount guess I don't even start with?

How am I supposed to help or keep up or even figure out what to do
