What is a "Frequent Traveler"? I’m Curious How Pinoy Travellers Define It
Hi, I've been noticing something lately in travel discussions both here on Reddit and on Threads: a lot of people casually describe themselves as frequent travelers even if they only take 1-3 flights a year. Nothing wrong with that naman at all, everyone has their own lifestyle and travel rhythm, pero it got me thinking about how different our definitions can be.
There’s no strict global standard for what counts as "frequent", but in general aviation/travel circles, we often thought of something like this:
- Casual travelers: fewer than 5 flights per year
- Regular travelers: around 5-15 flights per year
- Frequent travelers: around 15-30 flights per year
- Very frequent travelers: 30+ flights per year
Airline loyalty programs (like QR, the one I was with before) also give a pretty good benchmark. Marami sa mga carriers consider roughly 25,000+ miles flown OR 20+ flight segments per year as the baseline for "frequent traveler" status (i.e., their first tier of elite status).
So now I’m curious:
How do you guys personally define a frequent traveler? Is it the number of flights? Miles? Time spent abroad? Airport familiarity? General travel mindset? Something else entirely?
Would love to hear everyone’s perspectives, I find it interesting how subjective this label actually is.
