Melancholic/Introspective Ambient without hard recursive loops
Hey folks,
I've stumbled upon ambient music via one of Slowdive's earlier albums - Pygmalion's extended tracks. It's opened up new pathways in my brain since and I find myself listening to a lot of ambient at the moment.
Listening to ambient made me realise how an "Album" is a whole, and can sometimes be greater than the sum of its parts. Prior to my ambient initiation, I'd just been saving tracks into my Spotify playlists. Now though, I want to start saving/collecting albums. It also helps that a lot of the ambient cover arts are pretty darn good and more often than not nudges you towards the headspace the album wants you to be in. I want to be doing a bit more "intentional listening", instead of just letting Spotify/The Algorithm do whatever it wants in the background.
I am hoping for some album recommendations that have a slightly melancholy/introspective tone, without it being too depressing. I loved Tim Hecker's Ravedeath 1972 and Harmonies in Ultraviolet, but I am looking for something without as much electronic looping/jaggedness(if that makes sense) as I've had prior bad trips listening to Electronic on LSD.
I quite liked Substrata, although it still hasn't completely hit the spot. Pop! sounds great. Music for Psychedelic Therapy comes close to what I like too, but I find it's a different vibe to "Melancholic Introspection". Love Is A Stream is great, but a bit too similar in jaggedness to Tim Hecker.
If it helps, In the non-ambient space, I love Slowdive(Shoegaze), Still Corners(Dreampop) & Future Islands(Don't know where to put them :) )
Thank you very much in advance!!
