Advice Requested: Confused and Disappointed
Long time lurker, first time poster.
After a very nasty and sudden avoidant breakup (we were together for eight months) four months ago, I've (30M) been taking my time to rebuild, understand why I let myself stay in a relationship that wasn't reciprocal/kind, and invest in becoming more secure so this doesn't happen again and so I can attain better discernment.
Recently, I began dating again, but in a very different and more intentional way, without the desire to fast-forward through relationship milestones that I was once prone to do due to my anxious attachment wounds.
This past week, I met someone who seemed to be a genuinely secure and compatible match. We both spoke about values, boundaries, communication styles and, by the end of the date, we both expressed how mutually interested we were in seeing where this might go. There were some outliers that jumped to my attention (she said that I was the first person she'd been on a date with in years which initially felt flattering, and that she was happy to not go on dates with anyone else after ours) which is retrospect seem like overly enthusiastic future-baiting.
We set a second date via text the next day, and then we didn't talk for about two days on text. I then sent her a good morning text on the day of the date saying that I was looking forward to seeing her at the set time and location, and then two hours before the date, she cancels on me with a very vague explanation. When I asked if she could instead do this coming week, she didn't respond. I did send a follow-up text due to activating and feeling anxious (which is on me to regulate) saying that I hoped she had a good night, but also no response to this. At this point, I think I've been ghosted.
I have to say, I'm very disappointed. I thought that I had been careful in my discernment and vetting process. I imagine this has to do with some sort of deactivation on her end, though I'm still unsure. I feel like a betrayal wound of mine has been reactivated, and that I'm becoming jaded in being able to take people at their word (especially romantically) when they say that they believe in communication, consistency, and clarity...I'm 30 now, and I'm concerned that most secure leaning people are already out of the dating market.
Any advice or different perspective would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
TLDR: Feeling disappointed and discouraged.
