Before the final race of the season, Alonso led the championship with 246 points, followed by Webber on 238 and Vettel on 231. In the title decider, Alonso became stuck behind Vitaly Petrov for most of the race and could not overtake, ultimately finishing seventh, with Webber close behind in eighth.

Vettel, meanwhile, controlled the race from the front and won comfortably, securing not only the victory but also the World Championship. this turnaround happened without any of the top three contenders retiring, showing how quickly the title fight could shift.
