Bloodborne is the most overglazed video game of all time.

Media / Internet

Instead of giving a word blob on why I think it's overrated, lemme just try to explain why I think some of it's "better aspects" are overblown at best. (Also I'll mainly be comparing it to Elden Ring because a lot of people say it's better, I know it's old but I can not stand that sentiment.)

  1. "The aesthetic is so unique and cool!" - I used to believe this one, that was until I actually played the game. Not only is a lovecraftian aesthetic not really that unique (albeit for video games it kinda is,) but the color palette is so incredibly grey and washed out it ends up looking worse than the other games.

  2. "The combat is so refined and concisely constructed!" - This one I really don't understand, because it's kinda just wrong. Maybe I'm crazy, but there is literally nothing that Bloodborne brings to the table combat-wise that Elden Ring doesn't improve on in some way. The build variety, the poise break system, magic, the boss attacks and how they flow. I will admit the rally system is neat, but Elden Ring, and hell I may even say ds3 is way better.

  3. "The story is the best!" - This one feels a lot more subjective even though it all is, but Dark Souls, Elden Ring, and Sekiro all sweep in the story department. Bloodborne's isn't bad by any means, but it honestly feels like people were so caught up in the shock and awe to realize it's not near as interesting.

Final thoughts: I don't hate Bloodborne by any means, hell I love it. I'm just sick and tired of this growing superiority movement where you can't acknowledge another game's greatness without a BB fan going "Ermmm, ackshually Bloodborne did this way better!!" Sometimes it almost feels bordering to Michael Jordan levels of glaze.
