So we have 3 year old Thomas who is a gray tabby and two older cats who are a bonded pair. There’s been a lot of cat drama as Thomas is still playful but has become an outcast :( we got him a playmate, Alfira who is about 8 weeks old and healthy from what we can tell (vet appt on Monday). She’s very very playful and bold.

We started introducing her to Thomas slowly and she seems like she wants to play with him, and he is curious about her as well. She will stalk and pounce his tail but when he turns around and “gets her” she flops over and cries out and it sounds like she’s overwhelmed and/or pissed as sometimes there’s hissing too (just from Alfira). I think part of it is that he’s just so big compared to her, but he is always very gentle. When she sounds distressed, we redirect them with a wand or feather toy, and she doesn’t usually run away from him, if anything she goes right back for more.

She seems to get more confident every day but I’m unsure if I’m going too fast. I want her to socialize as she’s so young, but I really don’t need this screeching behavior to continue as my other two cats do plenty of that at Thomas already 😮‍💨

Most of the time that they’re together we have lots of toys out, places to climb and hide, and I have a wand toy that I use to get their energy out, so they aren’t solely focused on each other the whole time. When we aren’t able to supervise, she is in a kitten proof room where she has everything she needs, but someone is usually home and we try to play with them several times a day, together and individually.

Any and all advice welcome!

Should I do anything different with my kitten introduction?
