Been seeing a lot of cope about Koumba recently… he is a rapist.

I’ve noticed a lot of weird defense and minimization of Koumbas behavior in this subreddit recently. I wonder if a lot of people grew endeared to him after the last episode and are trying to cope with that fact and are cognitively dissonant of him being a rapist. He can still be a good actor, good character, and even a mostly relatable character while still being a rapist. But it is VERY weird how people are running defense for him ever since the podcast that explained he was poor before the joining. The cars, the planes, the hotel, it all makes sense and while a bit morally grey it makes sense with his background. What doesn’t make sense is him raping the mindless bodies of his ex-humans and that has nothing to do with his background and has 0 excuse.

Many people have been arguing that the hive is consenting, so i’m going to set some ground rules here.

1. You cannot alter someone’s mind until they consent (alcohol date rape drugs etc). That’s rape. The hive mind is the most straightforward mind altercation combining everyone into a single optimized “unit”. Any decision to consent one body to be raped by Koumba is not made by the individual of that body.

2. We do not know exactly how the hive works. Manousos mother clearly doesn’t act like herself at all. This is evidence that the hives might retain a lot of information about the joined people, but lacks the individuality of those people. This expressly confirms that the hive cannot consent for an individual but only for its collective.

3. The bodies of people are seen as expendable to the hive, hence why they eat them. There’s no reason to believe the hive gives any moral consideration to the humans who used to inhabit those bodies. Also a biological process is not moral anyways it likely is just acting on information from its memories.

4. The hive has stated they’d be willing to do anything for the survivors. Whether it’s a nuke for carol or corpses for Koumba to rape. The hive is using these bodies because Koumba knows they’ll do anything for him, and there’s a chance they don’t even LIKE doing it. As soon as they’re done with the roleplay at the hotel all the hive members emotionless begin cleaning up. They’re just doing theatrics to please him. I wonder though, how far could he go? Do you think they’d give him ANYONE he wants to rape? I’d say yes unfortunately, anyone at any age would be available to him. (Side note, saw a weird comment saying he’s showing restraint by only doing this to adult bodies, actually concerning comment.)

5. When the process is reversed will people remember what their bodies did? If you woke up after joining and remembered being raped by a guy multiple times and your body was being forced to enjoy it, would you still defend Koumba?

I could probably keep going with explanations but a lot of people are making big leaps assuming things about the hive or making conclusions that disagree with things we’ve already been told simply to defend Koumba’s raping. I frankly think it’s weird, and as I said before you can still think he’s a good character. Walter white killed people and people still like him. Dexter was a serial killer and people like him. Lots of characters do bad things but one thing people NEVER seem to do for those characters is make excuses for their actions to this level. There’s nothing wrong with stating “he’s a rapist” and if one episode of him being somewhat nice makes you excuse that it’s odd.
