Where to spend Christmas

Hello!

I (38F) am staying in Berlin for a couple of months while working on an opera. It is not feasible to fly back to the US for the holidays, and my Fiance(48M) will be joining me soon. I’m trying to find a place for us to spend Christmas, we will have about a week until I have to be at work again.

We are creatives, we love good food and good drinks, but we aren’t night clubby types. I love history and historic places. I’m hoping to find somewhere with atmosphere and cozy holiday vibes. Maybe an old country hotel? Roaring fires? Lots of decorations? Or a kitschy place in a city? Or cute village? We are open to anywhere in Germany or even Europe if there is an easy train or flight.

I was born here, but I haven’t lived in Germany in 30 years or been in Germany since 2008 ,so I don’t have any real ideas! As a child in Oregon my family would sometimes stay in an old ski lodge on a mountain and it was magical to me. Where would you want to spend Christmas?

Any suggestions would be very appreciated!
