After 2 years with the FC11, I'm looking for recommendations with more throw
My trusty Wurkkos FC11 (519a 5000k) has served me well for 2 years! Thanks for the recommendation. Now I’m looking for a second flashlight with what I’ve learned.
Currently, I'm looking at the Convoy S6 with the SFT40 3000k and 5A buck driver. Would you recommend the 8A driver or SFT-25R instead? Or perhaps a different model?
Feature wishlist (I'm aware I won't get everything I want)
-
Buck/boost driver. Sustainable levels & predictable runtimes over pure power. Not looking for a hand-warmer
-
Similar size and 18650 battery like the FC11
-
Option for a stepped UI. I wish I could set my preferred levels. Smooth ramping is less precise and less convenient. The Anduril flowchart doesn't seem to allow user-defined brightnesses for each step?
-
Throwier than the FC11, but not anything extreme. ~1000 lumens max is fine. Turbo will only be used for a few seconds
-
Useable spill for walking
-
Moonlight. I don't have this on my FC11. I purchased another for a family member and it's the same. There seem to be multiple versions of the FC11.
-
The lowest mode on my FC11 (guessing 50 lumens?) is also too bright only a fully-charged battery. It'd be nice to have a setting around 15 lumens.
Other thoughts
I like my Nichia 519a 5000k outdoors but not so much indoors. Not sure if I'd like warm light when I'm not relaxing or cosy.
99% of my usage is outdoors. Uses include pedestrian visibility (aimed at my feet or with a diffuser), avoiding tree roots/mud/dog poop, and avoiding bears in an urban environment. There are street lamps but trees, buildings and fences can block sight lines. Therefore, I want more throw than the FC11 but nothing monstrous.
... Does warm light really work better in fog?
