CMV: Majority support of Trump proves Christianity is not a net source of good.

I grew up among Christians and, although I could not believe in the spiritual aspects of the religion, I was convinced that the abundance of moral lessons made it a worthwhile institution of which I generally approved. I assumed that despite some stances I disagreed with (gender roles, homosexuality, etc) it still preached forgiveness, love and kindness, generosity, loyalty, humility, and so many other essential virtues that every civilization needs to thrive. In fact, this belief has kept me open to the possibility of finding spirituality and embracing the religion my whole life until now, despite being previously unconvinced.

However, I believe this stance failed the test of Trump. Christians overwhelmingly voted for a man who brazenly, happily defies basically every single virtue that makes the religion valuable in my opinion. My view, therefore, is that the institutions of Christianity cannot be a net positive in society (there are of course counter-examples and pockets of good), because they were essential in elevating a man who is openly at odds with the best aspects of their purported beliefs. Rather than promoting and producing a virtuous society, they have created an idol constructed of anti-virtue who is effectively worshipped as a savior.
