Unnecessary extrusion of entire lower arch, then corrective intrusion- wtf.
Backstory: I have an extremely tight bite. Ortho initially placed lower brackets very high on my lower teeth (on the tip top of teeth- farthest away from gum line). Well, my tight bite made this placement uncomfortable. Ortho originally wanted to AVOID bite blocks due to a posterior open bite issue, so he moved my 4 lower incisor brackets down lower on my teeth (closer to gum line so I wouldn’t bite on brackets). I was clueless, I had no idea that would just PULL UP (extrude) my lower incisors because all the other brackets were placed on the tip top of molars.
So, quick recap: tight bite, wanted to avoid bite blocks, moved 4 lower incisor brackets lower than the other brackets to avoid front teeth hitting them.
Well, as I found out, this placement simply PULLED UP my lower incisors…a lot. And guess what? I ended up hitting the brackets with my upper front teeth anyway after these teeth were pulled up. So, I went back in and was like “well now I’m hitting the brackets anyway” and now lower incisors look weird bc they’re too high (they were totally level with the rest of my teeth before)
Ortho was like “okay we will do bite blocks after all because we don’t want you biting brackets” uhhh…. So this whole up/down movement was completely pointless? Moving those brackets to avoid hitting them, unnecessarily pulling up my teeth — then needing bite blocks anyway? all pointless!
I got the bite blocks, but I couldn’t handle how high my lower incisors were still being pulled upward… so, then ortho moved me to a stainless steel wire to PUSH THOSE TEETH BACK DOWN with a wire bend. (And my liters aren’t even fully straightened yet)
I don’t know what I’m looking for here, but NONE OF THIS seems safe? I already had thin gum and bone loss on these teeth. This unnecessary extrusion/intrusion thing is freaking me out.
WHAT CAN I EVEN DO AT THIS POINT?
