AITA if I don’t want to talk to my SO(F20) since she won’t stop drinking?
Okay some context first. Me and my SO(F20) have been together for over a year. Everything was going okay but we’ve had a lot of issues of the past few months. And it stems from abusing alcohol.
I’ll admit that I used to also have a problem but when that became an issue for us I decided to put down the bottle and not drink.
Alcohol seems to always be a problem for us both. Now that I’m sober I don’t want to do things that are just all about drinking. I don’t mind if she drinks but now I’m at my breaking point. When she drinks she gets very angry and like to stir up trouble. She’ll get drunk and proceed to acuse me of things that aren’t true, like me cheating on her. Then she proceeds to run away thinking that I should be chasing after her like a dog.
I’ve found myself at 2,3,4 in the morning running around the town trying to find her and where she’s hiding. She’ll tell me that I need to find her if I love her and that if I did love her then I wouldn’t have let her leave. Mind you every time she does this I try to talk to her and tell her to stop and stay and not run away but she always refuses and I’m not gonna just manhandle her and force her to do something she doesn’t want to.
This last time was the final straw for me. She was drunk as a skunk and she came over to my apartment. Everything was fine until it wasn’t, then she proceeded to get angry and storm off. It was the middle of the night and the middle of winter. She told me she “supposedly” had a ride home, but she lied and just started walking. She made it two minutes away from the house before she hid under a bridge somewhere. I was calling and texting her the whole time to make sure that she was safe and I assumed that she was since she “had a ride” until she finally caved from the cold and told me what really happened. I then drove around for and hour trying to find her but she wouldn’t tell me where she was just vague things like on the road or near the highway, when there’s multiple around us.
I got so fed up that after picking her up I drove her home and yelled at her for constantly doing things like this, literally putting her body and health at risk. It was freezing out and she was barely wearing anything, and was telling me that she couldn’t feel her hands and feet anymore and got so cold she had to lie down.
I told her that I’m sick of this game she’s always playing so I’m giving her a choice, either she can be with me or she can drink, I’m done dealing with all this and watching her hurt herself. It’s a weekly routine that I don’t want to be a part of. She said yes to the agreement and that was done.
But now she started drinking again and I scolded her and told her that she knew the rules and that’s it for us. She’s not happy and says that she didn’t even drink much when she was out so it shouldn’t be a problem, but I’m putting my foot down and I’m sick of this behavior.
AITA for this? I get that it may seem controlling but if alcohol keeps causing issues then we should remove it right? I’m just sick of her hurting herself with all this and hurting our relationship.
