men 30+: Do you get more detached in love as you get older?
[Hey loves, please bear with me, period week energy, oversharing, but I also have some questions I really want clarity on.]
I am 20F, and I have met a man who makes me feel something I hadn’t felt since my breakup over a year and a half ago. He is 38 year old, grounded, kind, and attractive.
Yesterday, I caught myself thinking about him all day his quirks and what excites him.
Last week, I surprised him by cooking an Italian dinner( that signals i truly like him) , and the way he adored it left me smiling long after he left. Maybe it’s my period week amplifying everything, but it made me realize how much I like him and how much I enjoy showing him I care. Feeling this way also scared me a bit because of my past (he was older too).
He is ambitious, busy, and focused. I sometimes feel a little distance when we are not together he is not great with calls or chats but I understand. I don’t expect him to rearrange his life for me, especially since we are still in the dating/getting to know each other phase.
Since moving back to my hometown for my career, I travel to the city we both live in once a week to see him. On weekends, he is usually away pursuing a hobby in another state. He has invited me before, but being 20, I cannot exactly tell my parents I am traveling with someone older it’s complicated.
I have noticed I am the one adjusting my plans more often to see him, while he sticks firmly to his schedule, even for things that are not work related. It sometimes scares me to realize I might be more attached than he is.
Still, I am overall satisfied. When we meet, he is fully present, does great things for me, genuinely invested in us, and it’s intoxicating.
#questions: 1. Are men at this age generally less attached?
2. Are men more focused on their goals, themselves, and routines? Should I expect or communicate for a little flexibility in his schedule when it’s not crucial?
3. How can I navigate this to meet him halfway, respect his perspective, and communicate my preferences clearly without ending up in an unsatisfying position meaning that i too keep preferences alive here ?
I want to experience this bond fully, savor it, and understand it without losing myself or getting hurt.
Thanks for reading.
