The Frontier: Shinobi

Hero name: The Shinobi Civilian name: Yamikiri Ryousuke

Origin idea Born during Edo period Japan in the secret Yamikiri ninja clan, Ryousuke was trained at a young age in the art of ninjutsu by his father, the patriarch of the clan. Mastering mind and his body, Ryousuke learned and perfectly memorized many ninja techniques and fighting styles before he reached the age of 12. Following that, he joined his fellow ninja clan folk running missions for many clients throughout Japan, ranging from bodyguarding to assassinations. One day five years later, after completing a mission, Ryousuke returned home to find his clan in flames, the bodies of his people laid about and his father left for dead. With his dying words, the elder Yamikiri simply claimed a samurai was responsible for this. Ryousuke spent the next two years hunting for this samurai, killing those that stood in his way. Finally, his search for revenge came to an end when he got the name of the man he has been searching for: Tatsuyama Kenshiro. Tracking Tatsuyama's movements finally led him to the samurai, thus beginning their heated battle. Despite Kenshiro's skill set, the samurai was no match for Ryousuke and eventually, was left at the Ninja's mercy. Before he can deal the death blow, Ryousuke is taken by surprise when the Samurai reveals his magical abilities- by shooting lighting square into Ryousuke's chest. Stunned from the attack and trying to come to terms with what just happened, Ryousuke was unable to defend himself and could only watch in horror as the The Samurai prepared lightning for a killing blow. As the lightning reached his body, a flash of light surrounded Ryousuke and he was pulled into the future, drawn to the modern era by General Victor Crawne in an attempt to combat The Frontier. Ryousuke, confused by the setting, fights his way out of the generals holding and reaches modern Los Angeles. There he encounters his first superhuman: The Elasticman. After a brief misunderstanding from the language barrier and the subsequent short skirmish, Ryousuke is detained and brought to The Frontier's base. There, he explains his story to the attending heroes. After proving himself clever and skillful, he eventually is given a high tech suit and joins the team as The Shinobi.

Personality / vibe Ryousuke is disciplined, stoic and loyal. He listens first and speaks little. His ninja training allows him to face opponents without a fear of death, leaving him calm and collected in battle. He is open minded to the world around him and accepting of things that are outside the confines of normal.

Powers Despite not having any superpowers, Shinobi makes up for it with his skill set. He is a master of hand to hand combat, the ninja arts and ninja weaponry. He is in peak physical condition and is as agile as a ninja would be. His possess an eidetic memory, which allows him to memorize in full detail information and imagery with only one glance or a single listen. This talent allows to learn and master any learning discipline. Which aided him in his Ninja training and allowed him to be bilingual at a fast rate.

After joining the Frontier, he is given an armored suit reminiscent of a typical ninja uniform. This suit offers protection from small arms fire and blunt force. It comes equipped with a variety of collapsible ninja tools, including: Smoke bombs, small explosives, shuriken and kunai, a katana and kusarigama, a bow staff, nunchucks and a sai. The helmet offers protection and a heads up display.

Where they fit in the world / team The Shinobi is a man out of time in the modern world. With his family killed and many of his old friends lost to time, he feels somewhat alone. That plus his failed mission to kill The Samurai with the near death experience that came with it has left him feeling numb and lost in the world, despite being part of a team.

His shared trauma with fellow Frontier member Elasticman, plus their compatible personalities, led the two heroes to become close friends.
