Airbnb and Activity Planning

This is pretty open-ended, but the community here seems awesome, so I'm hoping we can get some help!

My wife and I will be traveling to Cozumel for the first time at the end of the month. It's an 8 day trip. Less our arrival and departure dates, we will have 3 diving days and 3 non-diving days. I'm just looking for any advice to help us plan a great experience!

Currently we have booked the Westin Cozumel, but we are thinking about canceling it and going the airbnb route. We are planning to dive with Jungle Divers.

For airbnb's, we are trying to decide if it will be best to stay more south by the beach clubs, or to stay downtown. My gut says with 3 diving days, we might be better to stay somewhere south, but maybe try to find some place with a nearby restaurant or beach club for convenience. We are also open to splitting it up, and spending the 2nd half of our stay downtown.

What is your advice regarding our accommodations? Airbnb south, split, or would the Westin be worth the added expense (nearly $2,000 more)? I booked the Westin because it has the beach, but it doesn't look super impressive. I'm not sure it's worth the added money, when we can go to beach clubs instead.

For our non-diving days, these are the activities we are currently planning:

- Rent a Jeep/vehicle to drive around the island one day, do Punta Sur and some east coast beaches. Maybe do Chen Rio or Buccanos at the end of the day, if there's time.
- We'll be there Christmas day. We plan to do a chocolate factory tour in the morning, and Mr. Sanchos for the rest of the day.
- Last non-dive day is still up in the air... Possibly El Cielo, Playa Palancar, Stingray Beach, Pearl Farm, or just food and shopping downtown.

Please let me know if these look like good plans, or what you'd recommend we do! Also looking for recommendations on things we can do on our diving days, after we return around 1 to 3pm.

Should we plan on renting a vehicle for our entire stay? Or maybe just while we stay south?

Any other advice or things to consider?

Thanks!
