A I Music Fakes taking over....
AI music fakes...These “lost 1960s demo” uploads {as well as from previous decades} are becoming a whole sub-genre of AI nostalgia marketing, often blending real-sounding instruments with voice models and fake backstories to evoke authenticity. Fully 50% of every musical track released is AI! {There are about 120,000 tracks released EVERY DAY! This is equivalent to Two Full YEARS of releases in the USA during the 1970s and 1980s!} Think about that for a moment... Artificial Intelligence is literally smothering real music created by real musicians. By this time next year it could easily represent 80-90%of ALL "new" music released globally. And this artificially created music gets better all the time. Here's an example: At first listen a few things become apparent: this is NOT recorded as a demo in the 1960s. It's garnered 3/4 of a million views just on YouTube in one month. People are losing their minds over it, serious rave reviews. The sound quality is far beyond what was being recorded in 1964 [go listen to a Beatles or Rolling Stones record from 1964 [recorded in then state-of-the art recording studios on Two-Track machines]. As for sound models? The vocal sounds like present day Susan Tedeschi and the harmonica sounds eerily like long time Willie Nelson band member Mickey Raphael. This isn't even remotely close to a single microphone recording-it has the fullness, clarity and separation of a 24 track or 48 track recording that has been mixed and mastered. That technology wasn't utilized until the mid 1970s.
As good as this sounds it is an AI FAKE. Real, authentic "lost tapes" do show up from time-to-time, notably classic blues performance from the 1960s recorded for European TV. If you scour music sites, you'll discover more "lost tapes" have appeared in the past 12 months then everything EVER before that. It's the birth of a new genre, one born of technology and advanced machine learning that would make Stanley Kubrick's HAL,(from the epic film 2001: A Space Odyssey)blush. It's also an example of how rapidly this technology is advancing in our now real Sci-Fi lives. As a music industry lifer, it's very concerning. I've advocated on behalf of musicians and artists-the best of whom were unique and instantly identifiable. AI threatens what we've long embraced as ART, and not just the musical variety. In the not-too-distant future, the internet will become so awash with AI music, that it will dwarf 100 years of real music recordings created by living musicians. HEARTBREAKING.
