Extended warranty options for a 2015 50i at 68K?
Yes I know, another warranty question. I apologize, but I appreciate you humoring me.
The warranty I had when I bought my X5 in Nov of 2025 just expired. It was $4K, 5 years, 100K miles. Didn’t have to touch it once which is good I suppose. But it’s hard to not have that feeling of not “getting your moneys worth”. Yes I know, that’s dumb.
Anyhow, after some searching, I’m getting quotes for $7.5-9K which seems ridiculous to me. When my 2001 E39 540 was my daily, I remember getting a second warranty in like 2014 with like 80 or 90 something miles on it, and it was still about $4K, maybe less. And allowed for 5 year 0% financing. The quotes I saw for my X5 were like 24 months for a $9K plan at like $300 something a month. Gtfoh.
Have things changed that much? I get that “newer” cars like my X5 are more sophisticated, but still…
The plus side is, my car has been absolutely rock solid. Only “repairs” I had to do were coils and plugs. Made the 1,000 mile move from Chicago to Florida in May. Last March before I left, my bimmer mechanic in Chicago couldn’t hardly find anything wrong with it as far as I can remember. Maybe fear transfer case seepage, maybe a bit of an engine oil leak. But you guys know how it is. One major repair like a transfer case and it can get stupid expensive.
Anyhow, just wondering if anyone might have insight on extended warranty / service contract companies that would be worth looking into for my use case.
Thanks very much for reading.
