Is this a sign from God?

I just got word that my stepdad died. For all intents and purposes he was my dad. And he was an abusive piece of s— to me and my mother and is the main reason I went no contact other than the abuse from others in my family.

I’ve been racked with guilt at leaving ever since and asking for a sign as to whether I should go back and yesterday was my birthday, which I just got a card for from my mother in the mail.

It was completely unexpected as there has been absolutely no contact whatsoever since 2023.

Is this potentially the sign I’ve been looking for or am I reading too much into it?
