Tapjoy scammed me out of more than 2M gems.
I’ve run into this several times already: Tapjoy instantly approves small offers and pays out the rewards with no issues, but the moment your reward gets bigger, suddenly it becomes a problem.
About 2 months ago, I started a big offer worth 2.5M gems (Sea of Conquest). I actually enjoy these kinds of games, so I got pretty invested in completing all the tasks.
The first 4 tasks with small rewards were approved immediately, plus the extra task where I had to spend $19.99. Everything went smoothly at first.
The problems started when I completed the second extra task (the one requiring a $49.99 purchase) and the last two tasks, which made up 80% of the entire reward and were obviously the hardest.
A week before the deadline, I contacted support. Their support is awful: they take up to a week to reply, and you can only dispute ONE offer at a time, which is insane.
Their first reply was:
"We regret to inform you that your issue was found to be ineligible for the reward, due to not meeting the requirements of the offer and/or its terms and conditions."
Of course Tapjoy never explains which rule you supposedly violated. But the question is: why was everything fine when I spent $19.99, yet when the amount became larger, suddenly there’s a mysterious reason not to pay the reward?
This is classic scam behavior: lure you in with small payouts, then refuse the big one.
Then I opened disputes for two other offers. At first I got refusals like:
"We regret that in this instance, you are ineligible for this reward due to the guidelines set by the offer’s Advertiser."
But later, they changed the reason completely and said I supposedly missed the deadline (deadline was November 17, and I sent the proof screenshot back on November 15):
"We regret that in this instance, you are ineligible for this reward due to the conditions the Advertiser of the offer has set not being met. In this case, it was beyond the timeframe given to complete the offer."
It’s honestly ridiculous that for the same offer, they give different reasons depending on who replies.
The funniest part? After several appeals, they suddenly decided to approve the $50 offer. So apparently I “broke the rules” at first, but later they realized I actually did everything correctly.
I wouldn’t be upset if they simply didn’t track progress from the beginning and I could save my time. But instead, I wasted 35 days completing the tasks just for the greedy scammers at Tapjoy to pocket the money.
So I wouldn’t recommend doing high-value offers from the scammers at Tapjoy. I reached out to EA support and also Sea of Conquest support, but they just sent me back to Tapjoy. It’s a shame that these games partner with such a fraudulent service.
