Need recommendations - proposing
Hi all,
Proposing to my partner in around a month, so for Christmas my plan is to buy her a nice camera as she loves taking pics and has been limited by her own budget. That said, we are both amateurs but are getting really into the hobby and love taking pics and videos together, to be honest I am the one more frequently taking pictures for us and of her - she is the best subject. On her list, she asked me for an upgraded point and shoot, but when I asked if it’s because of small size she said her biggest concern is high quality pictures but also if it’s big she can’t take it all the time (most times I could carry for her though). I plan to take her on a well planned date to a beautiful garden and get a tripod and take a video when I propose. I will tell her that we will capture stills from screenshots of the videos we take. When we do that, I want a camera that can be pretty amazing quality automatically and easy enough to interface with so that I don’t ruin the big moment due to inexperience. I know she wants a private proposal, and I want it to be a surprise as much as possible, so a photographer would be tough for this. I will find a secluded pretty spot in the gardens for this and I will do a separate engagement session with a pro afterward.
• Budget: 1500 ideal, can stretch to 1800 if needed but i cannot go higher than that. • Country: USA • Condition: New • Type of Camera: open to suggestions, smaller size and good for travel and girls nights would be best • Intended use: IG selfie style pics (flip out screen preferred), vlog style videos, portrait photos of family/pets • If photography; what style: not sure • If video what style: not sure • What features do you absolutely need: ibis a plus but not necessary. Great autofocus so that I don’t end up blurry when we have a tripod setup recording us. Flash or a hot shoe is also ideal. • Portability: the smaller the better, without compromising quality • Cameras you're considering: lumix s9(no hot shoe though), Sony a6400, lumix s5ii, Sony Zv-1 • Cameras you already have: pix pro, we are super amateurs but looking to upgrade and make more of the hobby. We’ve been long limited by budget but I have been saving for this. • Notes: I have seen an incredible deal on an s5ii with 20-60 mm lens for 1800 (500 off). Video looks spectacular but it seems like a big camera that might be hard to carry around. Leaves a lot of room for growth. It’s within budget, but is probably super complicated to use for beginners. Let me know any suggestions and thanks!
