Asphalt vs self level screed

Hi all, has anyone used asphalt to level a solid floor room in their house? We have an edwardian house with a solid concrete floor in the kitchen. We need it levelling and there is possibly some damp in a few spots which were trying to tackle. We've been advised to use asphalt by someone but I've not found much about it on forums etc. Thanks!
