Other

I am coming to terms with the fact that I have social anxiety. I have said for years that I’m not shy, just introverted and that I don’t care what anyone thinks when deep down, I am consumed by what others might be thinking.

I am started to look up resources, looking into therapy when my insurance kicks in, and talking to family about giving up alcohol. I don’t drink daily, but I have been drinking at social functions for years just to get through it. I always over do it and have terrible anxiety after, analyzing everything I did and might have did.

It’s been hard talking to family about my plans to manage this. I’m sure everyone has heard, “just stop worrying so much” and “who cares what they think” and many more, but I wasn’t prepared for how crazy that would make me feel. I keep asking myself if it should really be that easy, but finding this group has given me some clarity on that.

Since my last binge drinking at a social event, which was just last night, I have had crippling anxiety. I feel like I just can’t take it anymore. I want to call everyone and apologize, but people keep telling me I have nothing to apologize for. I have no idea what I can do in the now to ease this feeling off my chest and out of mind. I guess this is an attempt at getting some of my thoughts out.
