Strange metal smell from baseboard heaters?

I have been cleaning out my childhood room while being home for the holidays and while cleaning I’ve noticed an almost metallic coin smell coming from what I’m 90% sure is the baseboard heaters. My first thought was the metal bed frame that was probably 6-8 inches away from the heater but it’s still smelt a day after. We live pretty far north compared to the rest of the United States and have gotten a cold snap while looking up what it could be some people said them starting again for the season. I don’t know if it’s that because it’s colder than normal here but it’s still been well under 40 degrees outside for the past month. Is this dangerous and do I need to get this looked at? One more thing to mention cause it’s childhood room they are pretty dirty could cleaning debris fix this?
