Eyes of Yamato
Golden Path Tourism Information Distribution Board - A.E.E. 522 - 1.4.2.012.1
Welcome to another concise primer for visiting the Yamato, the objective of this particular document is regarding one of the more immediately striking aspects you'll likely have noticed in quite a bit of the media streams which have been going on between your world and the Yamato as it burns in-system to begin trading. That simple yet oh-so-strange thing being that many of those broadcasts sent feature citizens of Yamato with rather striking and unnatural eye colors.
First and foremost, they are one of the myriad of effects of deliberate genetic engineering carried out on Yamato at various points in our citizens' lives. However, that's an entirely different topic worthy of it's own rather more exhaustive primer. What's more important and relevant for anyone reading this is a myriad of other aspects of these rather hard to miss modifications that the majority of Yamato's adult population have.
Deliberately modified eye colorations on Yamato serve a simple cultural and functional purpose. They ascribe an individual to a calling. Broad in nature and wide in scope, but enough to allow for immediate recognition in such and to help with immediate identification of some degree of legitimacy in a field amongst those tens of millions aboard without personal knowledge of each and every other member aboard.
No doubt other material sent planetside has heavily featured those with seemingly unnatural blue or green eyes, as well as entirely unnatural pink, so let's go into some broad strokes details to help you understand some of the broad strokes about this rather novel system aboard Yamato.
Perhaps the most important to note in terms of visitors will be those Red Eyed individuals you'll no doubt see in many public spaces. These individuals follow a martial calling, and most frequently serve varying levels of security purposes aboard. Please comply with them if they advise you in some way. They're most commonly public safety officers, equivalent with local [police / law enforcement / arbitrators / gendarme].
Those bright Yellow Eyed engineers or maintenance technicians you may meet at some point may also have instructions for your safety that we would strongly advise following. These individuals have a wide variety of callings from industrial machining to structural work within the Yamato itself- but in public spaces where they're working, you should certainly follow instructions and queues they may designate for passages!
Common groups you'll see as a visitor to the Yamato who may well be central to your experiences as a guest of the Great Ship will certainly include Blue and Green Eyed individuals you've no doubt seen quite a few of on broadcasts. You'll doubtless have noticed that their eyes tend to be much brighter and more vibrant than seems natural, and they certainly are, to avoid confusion.
Green Eyed individuals are most commonly within a wide spectrum of backgrounds that could be called mercantile in nature. Many own shops, from restaurants and food stands to dealing in raw or refined materials in metric tonnes- and from logistics to serving only their local decks. On the Golden Path you're likely to visit? They'll likely be among the most numerous calling you'll see on the whole.
Their frequent peers and partners in Blue Eyes are quite similar in many ways, and oftentimes intertwined with business ventures. Blue Eyes most often deal in information, though it's as wide a field as such vague subjects as mercantile affairs, engineering, or security work as a whole can be. Many work directly with other callings, collecting and compiling data to demonstrate metrics which can be striven for. Compiling logistical systems into truly coherent data-sets, and otherwise working to ensure that our Great Ship has innumerable reliable hard datapoints to base a myriad of decisions on.
Those with strikingly Pink Eyes? It's likely unsurprising given the vibrancy, but their calling is most often across a variety of entertainment industries and within various roles of hospitality. If you're considering hiring a guide to Yamato, whether from an agency or via private negotiation, expect that they're very likely to place themselves within this category. There's quite a variety of subcultures within this particular calling, but for the sake of brevity the broadest brushstrokes tend to do the best.

Trying to just get some practice and words to screen in on a setting I've been developing for some time. Science Fiction. Decently far into the future. Figuring a soft puff-piece from in universe wouldn't be the worst way to try to keep things brief rather than waffling to give something of an impression on a small slice of it. Would appreciate any feedback on style, content, or intrigue on the whole of it.
