What would you do; GPU/CPU options
I’m putting together the components for my son to build his first gaming PC. This will be a Christmas gift. It’s an AM5 build, 32GB ddr5 6000mhz/30cl RAM, 2TB NVME, MSI 1000W PSU.
Now, I’m weighing tradeoffs on the CPU/GPU front. Currently, I have the 7600x3d/MSI B850 Micro Center bundle along with these 9070 XT graphics cards, which I bought at the indicated prices (open box):
- PowerColor Reaper, $521
- Asrock Steel Legend Dark $558
- Sapphire Nitro+ $638
I can alternately get a Gigabyte Windforce 5070ti for $719.
Assume my base option is the Reaper/7600x3d combo.
If I spend ~$200 more, I could do a few different things:
- Keep the Reaper, but upgrade to a 9800x3d/Asus B650e mobo bundle
- Keep the Nitro+ and upgrade to a 7800x3d/ Asus B650e bundle
- Keep the Steel Legend and spend a bit more than $200 more for the 9800x3d, or a little less for the 7800x3d
- Keep the 7600x3d/MSI B850 bundle and get the 5070ti
- Choose some different variation from the above components
Would love any insights and considerations you guys have to offer. Bonus points for real world experience.
I know you guys are going to want to know what games is he going to play, etc. Reality is, I don’t know for sure. He’s a console player up to this point and plays a wide range of games.
The key for me is him having something now that can grow with him and remain powerful enough for several years.
