What to invest in as a 22yr old student.
Hi all,
As the title says, I'm a 22 year old student. I have quite a few more years of study ahead of me as only a first year student as well as HECS debt from a previous degree (which I completed). For a long time, I considered paying off my HECS first with my savings but have since realized that's not the best move as of yet while I'm not earning a proper income. I am lucky to not have much in terms of expenses as I still live at home, and that's what's allowed me to save a little over 50k. I have dedicated some savings for an exchange/overseas experience, but I still have about 40k that I would like to invest somewhere.
I've been considering properties; I could buy a central apartment, potentially in Brisbane where the Olympics will be held. Otherwise open to elsewhere, as I've heard WA and some other places might be cheaper. That way I have the additional security of somewhere to live if it comes down to it eventually, and for the meantime will rent it out.
Other options include investing in ETFs which I don't know much about but am trying to learn; I tried CommSec earlier this year but realized it's not the best as the fees are super high.
My income is not gonna be great the next few years, and I also want some fun money to enjoy my life - travel, go out with friends occasionally, and I think that sacrificing some freedom to stay at home and the extra responsibilities that come with it (eldest daughter lol) will be worth the payoff.
Also, I've considered ADF because it's so good in terms of lifestyle support, but I don't know if I'm that interested beyond the money it offers which might not be a good incentive.
Would appreciate any advice or feedback,
Thank you so much!
