Apartment mgmt not addressing harmful fumes
Location: Maryland I moved into my current apartment in August 2024. Since I moved in, I’ve noticed a chemical odor when I walk in. I could not determine the odor or where it was coming from. It’s persisted despite the fact that I run fans and an air purifier constantly. I notified my property manager who has been nice but hasn’t done much to remedy the issue. Now I feel like he’s ignoring my emails requesting help and next steps. I mentioned transferring units, and he said the rent may increase and I may have to pay a transfer fee. Since this is essentially an issue of neglect to address the problem on management’s behalf, I’m wondering what my options are under implied warranty of habitability. The fumes are especially bad today. I’m almost wondering if my downstairs neighbor is either constantly using paint in their apartment of cooking meth. Please advise.
