trouble with friendship

i really love a good friend of mine but i don't think they value our friendship as much as i do. i am constantly overly aware of what i say to them as to not upset them because when i do they shut down for days or weeks. i will apologize (even if not necessary) and try to resolve the conflict. athough they accept my apology there is a significant change in their attitude. they act very cold to me and don't show interest in engaging in conversation with me until they've decided they have moved on (which may take weeks). i get that different people process conflict and arguments differently but they shut down over minor disagreements and it just comes off as blatantly immature, at this point. the other day i agreed to give them an item of mine but i asked a question about out it over text, to which they dismissed it and acted kind of rudely, which i asked them about the next day. they got very defensive and we argued about it slightly but i tried to move on. i tried to engage in conversation afterward but they just responded very coldly. is this consistent behavior reason enough for me to take a break from our friendship? how should i confront them?
