I think making Dammon so important was a mistake

SpoilerGeneral Discussion - [SPOILERS]

I saw a post earlier that mentioned this, and I saw some arguments in the comments that I didn't really agree with, so I felt inspired to make this. This issue goes beyond Dammon as well, it's really in every facet of an evil run in the game, but he's the most relevant to most runs. His importance even feels intentional from the devs, since he hoards some of the best items in the game in every act.

I see many people defending the decision to make him so important, and easy to lose, behind "decisions have consequences." I really do see the idea here, but the issue is that being good almost NEVER has consequences in return.

The classical literary idea behind being "morally good" is that it comes with a struggle. Being evil is easy and powerful, like embracing the dark side in Star Wars, but it often loses in the long term. The issue is that there's absolutely no reason at all to be evil, even in the short term.

Side with Minthara or the Tieflings? Side with the Tieflings, you get Dammon in Act 2, the Potent Robe in Act 2, and a plethora of other side quests and associated rewards. Side with Minthara, you get an extra tadpole. Being evil should be lonely. I think having the tieflings dead is a great punishment, you lose out on everything they offer through quests and rewards and it MAKES sense, you forsook them for short term gain with Minthara. But again, what's the struggle in being good? You can recruit Minthara anyway, you can loot her cool gear, hell you can loot her tadpole if you feel like killing her, etc. The short term gain is better with the tieflings anyway, since you can just immediately hoof it to Act 2 and grab Dammon goodies.

The only time evil gets any tangible short-term reward is with the origin-locked Slayer form, which is awesome, but again the inverse is devastating. You exchange it for Dammon Act 3, who sells some of the best end-game gear in the game, including probably the single best heavy armor.

There should have been more vendors like the guy whose name I forget who sells you the Bhaalist armor. That's a legitimate moral struggle, choosing between great power and being morally right.

I guess my main issue is that being good is too easy. Consequences for being evil are all well and good, but there should be SOME reason to do it. Why is anyone even evil in this world in the first place, then? Good guys get all the cool shit.

TLDR; Ketheric tried kidnapping the wrong person
