Does killing other players affect matchmaking?

I’m new to the game and am almost always friendly with other players, but this one time I decided to attack someone just to see how it would go. The dude got super pissed after I downed him and told me that killing other players a lot will matchmake me with other players who kill more often. Is this true, or was the guy just really salty? I prefer being friendly so I want to get matched with others who do too.
