If you stopped claiming that a trait defines you, what part of your identity would feel exposed?
I will be starting to answer these questions from now on, so that I can not only get the perspective of others on these matters, but also share my own. But I encourage people to share their raw thoughts with me. So first, lock in your answer to the question, and then read my answer. I really enjoy reading other people’s perspectives.
I’m very bad at integrating different types of writing styles in my work (for example I cannot write something ironic, or anything) so my writing style is very basic, but I encourage everyone reading this to reply in any possible style they think would lighten their mood (humour, sarcasm…)
With that being said, here’s my answer:
I would say that just revealing anything personal about myself to the world feels exposing, because I have gotten used to it over the years. I believe that if I had to base my entire personality on one trait, it would be my introversion (no comment on the way the word “introversion” is used, if incorrectly, because I have never used it before.) And to be honest, I think a lot of people should integrate that trait into themselves. But before people get me wrong, I must clarify. By introversion I don’t mean hiding behind a screen, watching reels instead of socializing. I mean thinking about my life and my thoughts, and what I believe in for hours, without ever picking up the screen or talking to anyone about them. That’s what truly defines a person, and allows them to identify themselves. The majority of people I have interacted with in my life have not showcased any kind of knowledge about who they are just because they absolutely need to be stimulated all the time. Of course, this trait doesn’t turn me into a god, or anyone of higher importance, it just allows me to reflect deeper, from within. I don’t need to confirm my reflection with anyone else to know that it’s valid. That’s why I try to get as many people I meet into reflecting. People always say “oh, I don’t have time” or “it’s not my top priority”, but that’s because they don’t enjoy living with themselves, which creates a stream of other major problems in the world, the first one being the inability to answer the simplest question on the face of the earth. “Who are you?”
So to answer the question, I would say that introversion is my biggest, most defining trait, and if I were to stop claiming that, I would turn into someone very superficial, and all my deepest thoughts, all the dilemmas that I constantly think of would be revealed, and thus I would never think at the same level of consciousness ever again.
