Why was the office of Kaiser removed following Germany's defeat in the Great War?
Casual historian here. Based on my limited understanding of late 19th/early 20th century Germany, I do not understand why the office of Kaiser was abolished. It seems like some of the instability of the Weimar Republic could have been at least lessened had there been more continuity with the previous regime. Is this viewpoint based purely on modern hindsight?
