This subreddit ruined my life

Serious

I was so obsessed with college apps

On my Reddit yearly review i had over a thousand hours on this subreddit

Because of it i got super into science olympiads, read all the books and blogs about the essay

Then was so anxious I missed the ED deadline

So anxious I missed the UC deadline

So anxious I missed the MIT deadline

I barely applied to a few places

Got into Georgia Tech, eventually interned at Amazon and got into YC and now graduating college and making 250k a year fresh out of school.

All good right? No

I only made one friend and lost him due to a cofounder breakup

I was in an on and off relationship that ended my first year of college, then I went to study abroad and they asked for me back but I was in Europe. They said their mom wanted us to get married they wanted to get married. When I came back to the US they didn’t want anything to do with me anymore, threatened a restraining order and blocked me on all platforms.

I attempted suicide and dropped out. My family didn’t talk with me for the next 1.5 years. At which point I found out my dad was terminally ill. He told me that all I want is prestige, all I care about is prestige, more than myself, more than my family, just prestige.

I was supposed to graduate 2 years ago… now I’m done.

An obsession that I didn’t have until I found this subreddit.

My problems were because of me, not my high school, not my teachers, just me.

If I didn’t find this subreddit I could’ve just played video games, gone to northeastern or my state school.

This subreddit ruined my life, don’t let it ruin yours.
