Skytrain etiquette
What has happened with Skytrain etiquette recently? I used to commute via Skytrain regularly, but then with COVID and WFH I took a break for a few years. This year I started commuting again, and I was shocked at what a free for all it has become. On any given trip, there are three or four people loudly talking on the phone, some even on speakerphone. Or watching videos without headphones.
Another new thing is people stumbling onto a full train with a flimsy Starbucks container. I have been drenched in coffee 3 times so far this winter alone.
Taking a bike or scooter on the train during rush hour? It is not allowed, and people used to respect that, but not anymore. Taking backpacks off? Not happening. Giving up seats for elderly and disabled people? No way, let them stand.
When you get to your stop, it is a struggle to exit the train against the crowd rushing in as soon as the door opens.
It is really too bad that Translink stopped playing PSAs in the train. So many people desperately need to hear them these days.
