Do you want to share interests?

Discussion

Hey Gang,

I only found out my diagnosis in my early fifties. I already had a life, yes lonelier than most, but a life that I filled with interests that blunted that loneliness. I filled it with reading good novels, learning new skills, creating designs with tools that challenged me. The logo for this sub took hours and hours to get the way I wanted, and that was hours and hours where I was not lonely. SPCD didn't, couldn't, hold me back. Every good book, every attempt at learning, every beautiful thing that I create, SPCD has no influence. For you young ones just finding out you have it, you're going to need to adopt a similar strategy and fall in love with the areas of your life where this disorder holds no sway.

If you've already got interests that magically cancel out some of the suffering the way I outlined above, share them with us. If you're reading something good, I'd like to know. If you're a maker, I want to see.

Someone called me intriguing the other day. Me, the quiet guy who doesn't readily share for fear of miscommunicating in one way or another. But, they are right. I do have depth and skills learned from filling my alone time with my interests. I've learned how to suffer less, and I'd bet many of you have done the same. So let's share. We probably won't figure out how to cure SPCD, but we all have to find a way to treat it, and I think activities that give us fulfillment are part of that treatment.

All the Best,

Tywest
