I (21F) was in a relationship with a 27M. It was only two months, but it felt way deeper than that. We were basically living together — cooking, talking, sharing days and nights like a real couple. He cared for me, made me feel loved, and never gave me a reason to doubt him.

Then suddenly, one day, he told me: “I can’t continue this.”
No fight, no obvious distance, just an emotional wall.
He said it might be because of his past heartbreak and that he isn’t ready for commitment again.

The breakup hurt a lot, but here’s the part that’s confusing:

👉 We’re still in contact.
👉 He talks to me every day.
👉 He checks on me.
👉 He motivates me to study and focus on my life.
👉 He didn’t disappear or block me — he stayed.

And now I’m stuck.

Because being in touch with him makes me feel close to him…
but every time the conversation ends, I’m reminded that he doesn’t love me the way I love him.

It feels like:

We aren’t together

But we aren’t strangers

And we aren’t “just friends” either


I don’t know if he’s keeping me in his life because he genuinely cares, because I’m comfort, or because he’s unsure about his feelings.

Meanwhile, I’m here wanting him back — wanting the relationship, the closeness, the love — but he doesn’t want that (at least not now).

So I’m torn between:

Staying in his life hoping things change
vs

Creating distance to heal and detach


I don’t want to lose him completely — but staying like this is emotionally painful.
