USB-C Thunderbolt video out stopped working
So just like many others, video out on the USB-C thunderbolt port on my Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro 16ACH6 suddenly stopped working after 2 years of active use. I have no idea what caused it, but based on what I have read here, I am afraid the multiplexer or retimer or whatever controls the video out on the port might be fried/broken. Data transfer still works, and it detects my phone if I connect my laptop to the phone. Monitors now only show up as "Generic Billboard Device" in device manager.
I used it with my monitor like normal, turned my laptop off, left the cable connected like I always did, went to bed, and the next day it just didn't work anymore.
I have tried most of the fixes I have found on this forum and other places like reddit, but nothing worked so far. Among the fixes I've tried:
- Reboot laptop and monitor.
- Tried the same cable and same monitor with other laptopts (Worked)
- Tried other monitors with my laptop (Does not work)
- Tried other cables with the same monitor (Does not work)
- Used the static discharge methods on my laptop.
- Uninstalled and reinstalled all relevant drivers. (USB, Monitor, Video/GPU, etc...)
- Checked BIOS for problematic settings, but no relevant settings in BIOS. (The ones that could be relevant didn't help to change)
I tried some other stuff too, but can't remember everything in my head since it was so many things.
The only thing I "haven't" tried yet is a BIOS update, and I put haven't in quotes because I tried installing update via Lenovo Vantage, but it just said 'Cancelled'. And when I check for updates again, nothing happens, so I don't know if it is updated or not, given . (Yes, I had only the power connected, nothing else.) If anyone knows a fix to this too, that would be nice.
So I'm just asking here with a hope that someone might know what is going on and if there is a way to fix the Thunderbolt DP/Video out without physical repair.
