In your personal experience, how accurate of a statement is it to say that the weather in a country generally shapes the character of locals?

Question

For reference I am British, living in Australia. I travel widely for work and generally not as a tourist.

I have developed a theory over the years that locals from any given country are GENERALLY shaped by the climate.

E.g.; British (stereotypically damp and grey) are guarded and insular, perhaps miserable. But welcoming if you dig a little. The same could be said for northern French, Germans, and Slavs.

Greek, Italian, Mediterranean (stereotypically sunny, dry, outdoor culture) are friendly, open, relaxed.

Scandinavian, northern Russia, Canada (srereotypically dry but cold, snow, winter) friendly, cosy, but in a less 'in your face' way than Mediterranean.

Arab, Australian, some US states (stereotypically very hot and dry) 'lazy', easy-going, relaxed, but with subtle lines you shouldn't cross.

Just my thoughts, very vague and general, and no disrespect intended.
