It got medically confirmed I smell bad.
This is probably a lighter post than most of the other stuff on here. It's been bothering me since I saw it, though. I made a throwaway account because the thought of someone I know recognising this is me makes me so mortified I want to disappear.
Around two months ago I had a mental health screening for a bunch of potential issues. Not important. When I got the original diagnostic paper back (the one the specialist writes describing you, your symptoms, anything important) there was a section where she'd described my general appearance. It was all fine, except for the words 'slight malodour'.
Smelling bad is a massive fear of mine, almost obsessively so, which is why the second I read this my stomach sank and I felt sick. I did throw up in the bathroom a little bit, and I didn't sleep for the rest of the night.
What is hurting me the most is that I genuinely didn't know. I do ask my friends and family sometimes, if I smell bad, and they never say yes, but I do think they'd be honest with me. I brush my teeth (and tongue) twice a day (with mouthwash). No dead teeth. I shower every 2 days (which I'm changing to 1 after this). I wash my clothes pretty consistently, and I douse myself in deodorant and then cologne on top of that. I never notice anyone covering their nose, or moving away from me when I'm nearby, and I have quite heavy social anxiety so I do think that's also something I would definitely notice. I walked to the appointment, but I also checked I didn't have any body odour when I got there. I had a shower before I left so this specifically wouldn't happen, because I'd been worried about it.
I don't want to be delusional, and think she was wrong, but genuinely, I am already suffering from anxiety and depression and obsessive tendencies and I can feel this teetering me on the edge so much. My only hope is that maybe she smelt my cologne and didn't like it, or maybe my clothes were musty from the dryer (which I can live with. That can be fixed), or maybe the smell of petrol clung to me since I'd been walking by a highway for some of it.
I feel sick even writing this. I've put all of my clothes and bedsheets in the wash, I've been washing them since 3 this morning. I'm about to shower and brush my teeth again.
