Does your world have its own version of the Justice League or Avengers? If so what makes them different?

My world's premiere superhero team are known as "The United." The world's best heroes uniting as one to protect the world. Like the JLA or Avengers, they started out as a core 7 team, but soon grew in numbers and has dozens of members now that span all over the world. From street level vigilantes with no powers, to gods that fight amongst the clouds.

You might be asking, what makes them different from the JLA or Avengers then? Well see how I said the world's "best" heroes, and not the world's "greatest" heroes? The thing is, the United is still widely known as the SECOND best superhero team in my world.

It's common knowledge for the people in my world that the actual greatest superhero team to ever exist are "The Legends." The only thing is most of this team are already retired.

The Legends consisted of 6 members, and they all kickstarted the Age of Superheroes. They were and still are seen as the most powerful heroes on the planet. But the thing is, they only ever really faced one major supervillain team and only operated for 5 years. After saving defeating "The Fatal Five", they really had no reason to continue being superheroes except for the leader. All of them became heroes because a member of the Five wronged them in one way or another. Helping others was just the bonus for them. After they graduated college, they all went their own ways. 5 out of the 6 members of The Legends retired and the only one who stayed doing hero work was one of the founding members of The United, because he knew the world still needed a superhero team.

Even still, the world still puts "The Legends" on this incredibly high pedestal for what they managed to accomplished and how much they inspired the new heroes. The Legends still do sometimes come out of retirement, but this only ever happens if there is a big enough threat that the United aren't able to handle, which you can imagine happens VERY rarely.

So yeah, that's the main difference between my big superhero team compared to others. It's that the United aren't known to be the greatest superhero team, but merely just second place to a team that has been retired longer than they have ever been active.
