Wondering if a bun is truly the pet for me, and if it would be possible!

Care

So for a while now i’ve had quite a hyper fixation on bunnies. I’ve done a decent amount of research on them over the past few weeks because I potentially would like to adopt a bunny in the future as a pet. I love all animals and my family does as well, but it has always primarily been my parents taking care of the pets, I do have experience with taking care of pets but i have never had the full responsibility of taking care of one for an extended period of time. I specifically love animals that have a bunch of personality, which i see most in bunnies and cats, given time to warm up to their owners. I find the fussiness of bunnies to be cute and i’m sure someone reading this will go “it’s cute until you have to deal with it” but keeping a bun happy and loved despite the challenges is one of the reasons i want to take care of one.

I grew up primarily around dogs, and have more recently been around cats (i am writing this as one of my cats lays on my stomach). I certainly wouldn’t want to have an unsafe bunny while i have cats for obvious reasons, but in the foreseeable future i would like to take care of a bunny and dedicate my time to one majorly.

i’m 17 years old and don’t go to school in person so i have a lot of time at home to spend for the next few years. I usually stay up late into the night and wake up early in the morning, and i’ve heard bunnies are usually active around dawn and dusk which is when i’m most active and wanting to socialize with people and pets.

The biggest thing i’m concerned with is the fact that my room is somewhat small and a far cry from rabbit proofed. I don’t have enough space or an extra room to give my bunny entirely to them. I would be able to rabbit proof my room but I can’t guarantee that anything outside of my room will be able to be fit for a bunny. My room is around 120 sq feet and my bed is about 35 of that. The lower half of my room’s walls is a polished wood as well, not drywall, and if a rabbit could chew into that it would be dangerous. There’s a pretty long hallway outside of my room that leads to two other rooms, with the entire hallway being able to be closed off by doors. this area could potentially be rabbit proofed as well.

In terms of breeds, because my room is somewhat small/enclosed and i wouldn’t be able to let them roam the house without constantly keeping an eye on them I was thinking of looking for a smaller bun that can be happier in smaller spaces. The first candidate is a mini lop but please let me know if there would be any other ideal breeds for a situation like mine.

i would not want to adopt a bunny if in any case they would be unhappy or unsafe in my care, so I’m holding off on even looking to adopt one until my kitties are either able to be fully separated from a bunny in my room or just be much more passive (im primarily concerned about one of my cats who has more predatory tendencies, the other one is a lot chiller.) Though if anything can be arranged to have a bunny coexist with my cats safely that would be ideal.

If anything i mentioned would not be ideal for a bunny, please let me know. i do love bunnies but i care more about the well-being of them than having one, so if it means i will have to continue just being a rabbit enjoyer rather than an owner, that’s okay.

If you need any more specifications or details, or just thoughts please comment! and thank you in advance. ❤️

P.S. I’m writing this while sleep deprived so i apologize for bad grammar or spelling mistakes, also I don’t use reddit often so sorry if i categorized anything wrong -w-
