Career has been in the toilet since finishing University
Hi, i’m really depressed just thinking about my career lately. I know not everything I have done is relevant to accounting but it’s just some backstory on why i’m so depressed about everything.
I graduated university with a master and went out on the job market, I couldn’t find anything so I worked in a warehouse for 9 months and it was pretty horrible (minimum wage). I managed to get a customer service role where I think worked for another 7 months, this wasn’t a bad role just not much progression (25k per year).
This is where my accounting life started, I joined a firm as a graduate doing the ACA. I was there for 18 months and got let go pretty unfairly for failing an exam first time. (Y1 26k, Y2 28k)
The job market was pretty rough during this time and I just couldn’t find anything for a while, luckily I managed to get a role at another accounting firm continuing where I was.
This role was £28k too but it was a title drop (School leaver title, not grad). I was also told they would pay for my ACA but they changed their mind and I have had to self fund it. Iv been here for 7 months now (Y3 now as I have over 2 years experience) and got told I wouldn’t get a salary bump because I haven’t been there long enough yet.
I feel like iv tried so hard, I’m almost done with my ACA exams as iv done 14/15 self funding (5 professional levels and 2 advanced so far). However i’m still at rock bottom in terms of salary still and it’s very depressing.
I still need to wait 1 year 3 months for time qualified for the ACA so Iv still got time to go.
Iv been out of university for 4 years or so working and i’m still on close to minimum wage…
