Competitive IM specialties

Seeing USMDs going unmatched at their home program in competitive specialties and the positions given instead to FMGs (programs where the PDs and or APDs are FMGs) We all know that in the US a lot of the PDs and APDs are FMGs themselves (from Pakistan, India, middle east countries) I am just trying to not believe that connections are more important, Thanks!
