Named executor for Texas Mom’s estate, but live in NC

Yes, I have included the state or country in the post

My mother passed away suddenly a few nights ago. She is in Texas and I live in North Carolina. I flew down and started going through paperwork yesterday and found that she has named me as executor in her will, followed by my elderly uncle who lives in Pennsylvania. I do not feel like I can manage this responsibility when I live several states away and would be unable to travel here more than one more time in the next few months due to an upcoming retirement and surgery.

I plan to contact the attorney who managed her will tomorrow, but wanted to know if anyone could provide insights into what would happen if I decline to be executor. I know my uncle would also decline given his location. The only beneficiaries are myself and my brother who is intellectually disabled and already has a trust set up. I have power of attorney for my mother.

Thank you for any advice and sorry if this seems jumbled. I’m still in shock and quite overwhelmed.
