My therapist asked a complicated question

Advice

In last my therapy session I explained that I find it difficult to share my intimacy with people. It happens with almost everything related to myself (my ideas, my story, my experiences), but is also specially worse with things related to my suffering and bad states of my mind. And this usually happens when I find places that I could share my experiences, but find myself being too restrict, reaching an self imposed limit, not wanting to be seen suffering or vulnerable, not feeling safe to share (even though I know, rationally, it is a safe place, with a safe person). To that I can give no specific reason.

I know this prevents me of reaching intimacy, something I desperately want and need. It also makes me feel disconnected from my "real" self, since I am in a constant state of vigilance and self moderation. It may have a good side, I am probably a very good listener, who, through moderation, leads people to be more open (people usually ask me for advice or share their story with me very easily).

After hearing that my therapist asked if I also do this with her. It cracked me. But I honestly said I don't, because rationally I know I can, and I should, trust her and that space. However, after reflecting in the between sessions I found another, more truthful, answer (what usually happens a lot). If I reflect on the things I told her I can point a lot of times I either reduced, escaped, or simplified, what was on my mind. It makes me sad that I did that, and now I want to repair it.

Does anyone know how to deal with that? Should I share all these with her? I also struggle with the thought that I am the root cause of my suffering, which makes me uncomfortable and afraid to share. If I am honest I am afraid to hear something on the lines of "you have brought all that suffering to yourself" or "thats a creation of your mind" or "you are seeking for attention". I don't even trust it makes sense. I just want to share this struggle right know and reflect more deeply before my next session.

Thank you for reading.
